From Technologyto Capability

For founders and investors, we validate whether a technology or product can become a fielded military capability, enabling the Allied Warfighter to gain and sustain decisive advantage.

Technology is a component. Capability is a technology proven against doctrine, organization, training, and the conditions it will actually be used in. Most dual-use companies conflate the two — and find out the difference during procurement, not before.

What We Do

We validate whether dual-use technology can become a fielded military capability — built on operator judgment earned across two Five Eyes nations, not desk-based analysis. Three services, sequenced: validate, advise, enter.

01

Operational Pressure Test

We assess whether a technology can become a fielded capability, using NATO's DOTMLPF-I framework, TRL/IRL/MRL readiness triangulation, and an operator-led pressure test against real employment conditions — not lab conditions. Includes an explicit check on whether the company is defence-ready now, or needs civilian-market validation first.

For
Founders validating a defence application. Investors and accelerators requiring independent, evidence-graded due diligence before committing capital or a cohort place.
Deliverable
Capability Validation Report — graded verdict (Real / Conditional / Dead), evidence-graded findings (Verified / Corroborated / Documented / Claimed), and an Evidence Plan for closing identified gaps.
02

Capability Advisory

Retained, episodic operator guidance as a company matures — including reviewing IP ownership and licensing terms before any prime or supply-chain agreement is signed, and screening ownership, investor, and supply-chain exposure against procurement eligibility requirements.

For
Validated companies who need ongoing operator judgment without an embedded seat inside the business.
Deliverable
Scheduled reviews tied to programme gates, funding cycles, or prime negotiations — a defined cadence, not open-ended time.
03

Defence Market Entry

Translating a validated capability into an actual adoption pathway — programme-shaped applications (NATO DIANA, IDEaS, NRC IRAP DI Assist), positioning in the buyer's language, and engagement targeting including rehearsal before key meetings.

For
Validated companies ready to enter procurement or funding pipelines across Canada, NATO, and Five Eyes markets.
Deliverable
Defence-ready capability narrative, targeted engagement plan, and one or more programme-specific submissions.

How We Validate

Every engagement runs on the same lens, applied consistently rather than reinvented per client.

  • NATO's DOTMLPF-I framework — doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership, personnel, facilities, and interoperability, assessed together.
  • TRL / IRL / MRL readiness triangulation — technology, integration, and manufacturing maturity read as one picture, not three separate scores.
  • An operator-led pressure test against real employment conditions — environment, contested electromagnetic spectrum, sustainment, training burden — not lab conditions.
  • An explicit check on whether a company is defence-ready now, or needs civilian-market validation first.

Evidence Grading

Verified
Confirmed directly, first-hand.
Corroborated
Confirmed by an independent second source.
Documented
Supported by written material, not independently confirmed.
Claimed
Stated by the company, unconfirmed.

Verdict

Real
The capability case holds under pressure.
Conditional
The case holds if specific gaps close.
Dead
The case does not hold.

Who We Work With

We work with people who need a credible, evidence-based answer before they commit capital, a cohort place, or engineering time to a defence application.

  • Hard tech founders validating a defence application for the first time.
  • Defence accelerators and investors requiring independent, evidence-graded due diligence.
  • Validated companies ready to enter a procurement or funding pipeline.

Focus

  • Autonomy & Uncrewed Vehicles
  • Extreme-Environment Technology
  • Soldier & Squad-Level Systems
  • Sustainment Operations (Logistics, Supply Chain, Maintenance/Engineering, Movement & Transportation, Medical)

Based in Canada. Working across NATO and Five Eyes markets — an industry where trust and credibility are everything.

Mark Machin

Mark Machin MBA, BEng (Hons)

Founding Partner

Mark Machin spent nine years as a British Army engineering officer — the technical bridge between front-line operational requirements and OEM engineering teams across vehicle, armaments, sensor, robotics, and communications platforms, commanding 200+ personnel across three continents. He later advised Fortune 500 clients at McKinsey & Company, then built and led capital programme advisory practices across Canada, the US, and Chile.

BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, MBA. Dual UK/Canadian citizen, Vancouver.

Ollie Campbell

Ollie Campbell MC, MSc, CMgr

Founding Partner

Ollie Campbell spent seventeen years as a British Army infantry officer, commanding operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and awarded the Military Cross for gallantry. He went on to advise senior officials on geopolitical risk and multilateral defence policy as Senior Policy Adviser at the UK Mission to the United Nations, before leading governance and strategy at one of BC's largest regulators.

MSc Security Sector Management (MA International Affairs, King's College London, in progress). Dual British/Canadian citizen, Vancouver.
